Senatore Cappelli is a variety of wheat that dates from the early 1900s.

The ears are quite high compared to the common wheat as they reach about one meter and eighty centimeters, have about twenty fertile ears compared to 15 of the common wheat and about fifty grains per ear.

This variety has been little cultivated for decades because of the difficulty of treating high ears that bend to the wind and weather more than the common ones, for their height and also for their low yield: about 27 quintals per hectare against 35 of the other.

Recently it has been rediscovered in the context of farms with organic products and is located in Italy in: Marche, Tuscany, Calabria and Basilicata.
