La Betaina è coinvolta nella sintesi proteica che è una delle principali funzioni cellulari (1).

I livelli sierici di colina e betaina hanno mostrato forte valore prognostico per la previsione di incidenti del colon, suggerendo un ruolo del metabolismo della colina e della betaina nella patogenesi del cancro al colon (2).

Il colesterolo è essenziale per lo sviluppo neuronale e delle funzioni del cervello. La somministrazione in ovo di betaina modula il metabolismo del colesterolo epatico (3).
