The Food Chemicals Codex in the USA has recognized and approved the composition based on five components:
- Elastomers: provide elasticity
- Plasticizers: make elastomers soft
- Resins: used as binders and softeners
- Fillers: contribute to the overall consistency
- Antioxidants: to prevent bacterial attacks and oxidation
