Audi A3 Sportback / Sedan (4th generation “8Y”, MY 2025)

The 2025 facelift brings a wider Singleframe grille, new Digital-LED headlamps and a larger 11.6-inch MMI display, while the MQB-Evo platform, five-door Sportback body (4 349 mm long) and longer-tailed Sedan remain unchanged. Boot capacity is 380 L in the Sportback or 425 L in the Sedan, rising above 1 200 L with the rear bench folded.

Two diesels (30 TDI 116 hp and 35 TDI 150 hp) stay on the price list for high-mileage fleets. All petrol units carry a GPF; the 1.5 TFSI can shut down two cylinders at a cruise.

Strengths highlighted by owners & road tests

PRO
Premium cabin finish – soft plastics even low down, new sustainable fabric inlays, 10.25″ Virtual Cockpit now standard.
11.6-inch MMI – faster processor, custom widgets, rock-solid wireless CarPlay/Android Auto.
Efficient mild hybrids – the 35 TFSI MHEV averages about 5.3 L/100 km and drops CO₂ by 10–12 g/km versus MY 22.
Refined ride/handling balance – optional DCC keeps roll in check yet absorbs bumps on 17″ wheels; cabin hush betters most rivals.
Full ADAS suite – AEB with cyclist detection, lane-centring, stop-and-go ACC and traffic-jam assist to 60 km/h.
Usable PHEV – 40 TFSIe covers ~55 km real-world on electricity and recharges at 11 kW AC in 2 h 15.
Secure quattro versions – 40 TFSI and S3 deliver drama-free traction in the wet; the S3 gains rear-axle torque-vectoring.

Recurring weaknesses

CON
Pricey options – tick ACC, Matrix LEDs, sport seats and leather and the 35 TFSI balloons by €6–8 k.
Touch-only climate & lights – rotary knobs are gone; many drivers dislike the capacitive sliders, especially when wearing gloves.
Dry-clutch DSG on 1.0 TFSI – jerks when cold and clutch packs can wear at 90–110 k km in stop-start traffic.
Average rear head-room – leg-room is fine, but anyone over 1.85 m brushes the roof lining in the Sportback.
Small fuel tank on PHEV (40 L) – motorway range falls to ~450 km once the battery is flat.
Oil use on 2.0 quattro – up to 0.5 L every 3–4 000 km is deemed “normal” by Audi.
Occasional MMI glitches – over-the-air updates can trigger random reboots; a reset and service-patch usually cure it.

Verdict

The facelifted A3 ramps up connectivity and driver aids while preserving the premium finish that sets it apart from mainstream hatchbacks. Mild-hybrid 1.5 TFSI versions sip around 5 L/100 km, the PHEV covers most commutes on electrons alone, and the 40 TFSI quattro or S3 satisfy performance seekers. Prices, however, climb rapidly with options; the touch-only controls divide opinion, and the 1.0-litre’s dry-clutch DSG needs sympathetic urban use.

If you want a compact car that feels upmarket, drives quietly and showcases the latest tech, the 2025 A3 remains a benchmark. If your budget is tight or you need more rear space, a high-spec mild-hybrid Golf or Honda Civic e:HEV may be the smarter all-round pick.
