Flavour enhancer is used to improve the taste of a food product aimed at achieving a balanced, strong flavor, able to convince the consumer to buy back the product. In many cases these are chemical compounds that can compensate for any lack of flavor by adding a more appealing artificial taste. A typical example is the monosodium glutamate that is almost always found in oriental cuisine. Then we find monopotassium glutamate, magnesium diglutamate, monoammonium glutamate, calcium diglutamate, and many more.

However, there are also natural flavorings such as poppy seeds, dried garlic, caraway seeds, dried onion, sesame, algae. The list is quite numerous. They are certainly preferable to chemical compounds.
