Transferrin is a β-Globuline

The major iron transporter protein in plasma. 30% saturated with iron.

Plasma levels drop in malnutrition, liver disease, inflammation, tumors. Iron deficiency results in increased hepatic synthesis of transferrin.

It is a negative acute phase protein.

Other molecules have an antioxidant function or are involved in the regulation of redox balance in the cells of our body: some of these molecules are produced by our body, others we can take from outside, exogenous nature.

Transferrin and ferritin are involved in the metabolism of iron, ceruloplasmin is involved in the metabolism of copper. These molecules are responsible for the mobilization or otherwise the accumulation of elements such as Fe and Cu, so these molecules also function as electron acceptors and donors.
