Palm oil is obtained by crushing and for various other chemical processes, from the homonymous tree.
Insoluble in water and less dense than water, it floats there.
It contains mainly glycerides of palmitic, oleic, linoleic and lauric acid.
It is used in biodiesel (1) and in the medical field (2).
Food industry
Following the press campaigns that have highlighted the dangers to human health and the environment, this oil has been replaced, by larger food industries, with sunflower oil.
