Chives (Allium schoenoprasum L.) is a perennial plant belonging to the Liliaceae family, a very large family that includes about 500 species spread around the world.
It is used in cooking and medicine for the healing properties of its leaves.
It has a variety of pharmacological potentials including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant and antipertensive. Phytochemical studies have revealed the presence of sulfur and phenolic compounds, flavonoids, soap and steroid glycosids (1) as well as kampfaerol.
The antioxidant activity of Allium schoenoprasum is due to a variety of compounds containing bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, dietary fibers and microelements (2).
