Dominica

Dominica, officially known as the Commonwealth of Dominica, is an island located in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. It should not be confused with the Dominican Republic, a different country. Dominica is nicknamed "the nature island of the Caribbean" due to its extraordinary natural beauty, with lush rainforests, waterfalls, rivers, and hot springs. The capital, Roseau, is a small city with a mix of colonial and modern architecture. Dominica's culture is influenced by its Kalinago (indigenous), African, and European roots, evident in music, such as the Bouyon music genre, and cultural traditions. The island's economy is primarily based on agriculture and eco-tourism. Dominica is known for its commitment to environmental conservation and as a popular destination for eco-tourism, with attractions like the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island has a history of resistance to colonization and gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1978.
