Panax ginseng oleosomes are small lipid particles derived from the roots of Panax ginseng. These oleosomes are used in cosmetic products to potentially enhance skin benefits. They contain active ingredients from ginseng, including ginsenosides, in a form that may improve ingredient stability and absorption in formulations.

Chemical Composition and Structure:

Active Components: Primary components include ginsenosides, saponins, and essential fatty acids.
Composition: Oleosomes are composed of a lipid matrix that can encapsulate and protect active ingredients, improving their bioavailability.
Structure: Spherical lipid micro-particles that can be incorporated into cosmetic formulations for controlled release of active ingredients.

Physical Properties:

Appearance: Small, spherical particles that are light-colored or transparent.
Odor: The odor depends on the lipid matrix used but is generally neutral.
Solubility: Oleosomes are soluble in oils and can be easily incorporated into cosmetic formulations.
pH: Not applicable as they are lipid particles.

Production Process:

Harvesting: Panax ginseng roots are collected and processed to extract active ingredients.
Oleosome Preparation: Active ingredients are incorporated into a lipid matrix to form oleosomes through emulsification and microencapsulation techniques.
Formulation: Oleosomes are then integrated into cosmetic formulations to optimize the release and absorption of active ingredients.

Applications:

Skin Care: Used in creams, serums, and lotions to enhance the efficacy of ginseng's active ingredients and provide prolonged protection and release.
Cosmetic Products: Ideal for anti-aging, moisturizing, and regenerating products.

Environmental and Safety Considerations:

Environmental Impact: Oleosome use may be more sustainable compared to other ingredient delivery methods, reducing the need for additional components.
Safety: Generally considered safe for cosmetic use. Individuals with allergies or very sensitive skin should use with caution.

INCI:

Skin conditioning agent - Emollient. Emollients have the characteristic of enhancing the skin barrier through a source of exogenous lipids that adhere to the skin, improving barrier properties by filling gaps in intercorneocyte clusters to improve hydration while protecting against inflammation. In practice, they have the ability to create a barrier that prevents transepidermal water loss. Emollients are described as degreasing or refreshing additives that improve the lipid content of the upper layers of the skin by preventing degreasing and drying of the skin. The problem with emollients is that many have a strong lipophilic character and are identified as occlusive ingredients; they are oily and fatty materials that remain on the skin surface and reduce transepidermal water loss. In cosmetics, emollients and moisturisers are often considered synonymous with humectants and occlusives.

Emulsion stabiliser. Emulsions are thermodynamically unstable. Emulsion stabilisers improve the formation and stability of single and double emulsions. as well as their shelf-life. It should be noted that in the structure-function relationship, the molar mass of the ingredient used plays an important role.

Skin conditioning agent - Humectant. Humectants are hygroscopic substances used to minimise water loss in the skin and to prevent it from drying out by facilitating faster and greater absorption of water into the stratum corneum of the epidermis. The epidermis is the most superficial of the three layers that make up the human skin (epidermis, dermis and hypodermis) and is the layer that maintains hydration in all three layers. In turn, the epidermis is composed of five layers: corneum, the most superficial, lucidum, granulosum, spinosum and basale. Humectants have the ability to retain in the stratum corneum the water they attract from the air and have the function of moisturising the skin. It is better to use them before emollients that are oil-based.
