Moringa Oleifera Callus Extract  is a product of natural origin that is derived from the culture of undifferentiated cells (callus) of the Moringa Oleifera tree,  belonging to the botanical family Moringaceae, often referred to as the "drumstick tree" or "horseradish tree".

Chemical Industrial Synthesis Process

  • Selection and Preparation of Plant Tissue: It begins with the selection of healthy tissues from Moringa Oleifera plants. These tissues can be leaves, stems, or other parts of the plant rich in meristematic cells.
  • Callus Induction: The selected tissues are sterilized and placed in a specific culture medium that promotes callus formation. This medium contains nutrients, vitamins, and phytohormones that stimulate cells to proliferate, forming an undifferentiated tissue.
  • Callus Growth: The calluses are cultivated under controlled conditions of light, temperature, and humidity. During this phase, the calluses grow and expand, accumulating a rich variety of bioactive compounds.
  • Extraction: Once the calluses have reached sufficient mass, they are harvested and subjected to an extraction process to isolate the bioactive compounds. Extraction can be performed using solvents such as water, ethanol, or supercritical extraction methods, depending on the solubility of the compounds of interest.
  • Purification and Concentration: The obtained extract is then purified to remove impurities and concentrated to increase the content of active principles. This process can include filtration, centrifugation, and vacuum evaporation.
  • Quality Control: The Moringa Oleifera callus extract undergoes rigorous quality control checks to ensure the concentration of antioxidants, purity, and the absence of contaminants. These tests can include spectroscopic analyses, chromatographic analyses, and biological activity tests.

Moringa oleifera callus extract is typically a viscous liquid ranging in color from light brown to green.

What it is for and where

Medical

Traditionally, Moringa seeds have been used to treat edema, arthritis, epilepsy and other health problems.

Phytochemical analysis found beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and polyphenols with antioxidant activity (1), lecithin with antibacterial activity (2), and the ethyl acetate fraction showed strong anti-inflammatory activity (3).

Cosmetics

Antioxidant agent. Ingredient that counteracts oxidative stress and prevents cell damage. Free radicals, pathological inflammatory processes, reactive nitrogen species and reactive oxygen species are responsible for the ageing process and many diseases caused by oxidation.

Hair conditioning agent. A significant number of ingredients with specific and targeted purposes may co-exist in hair shampoo formulations: cleansers, conditioners, thickeners, matting agents, sequestering agents, fragrances, preservatives, special additives. However, the indispensable ingredients are the cleansers and conditioners as they are necessary and sufficient for hair cleansing and manageability. The others act as commercial and non-essential auxiliaries such as: appearance, fragrance, colouring, etc. Hair conditioning agents have the task of increasing shine, manageability and volume, and reducing static electricity, especially after treatments such as colouring, ironing, waving, drying and brushing. They are, in practice, dispersants that may contain cationic surfactants, thickeners, emollients, polymers. The typology of hair conditioning agents includes: intensive conditioners, instant conditioners, thickening conditioners, drying conditioners. They can perform their task generally accompanied by other different ingredients.

Skin protectant. It creates a protective barrier on the skin to defend it from harmful substances, irritants, allergens, pathogens that can cause various inflammatory conditions. These products can also improve the natural skin barrier and in most cases more than one is needed to achieve an effective result..

Commercial Applications

Cosmetic and Skin Care Products. Thanks to its exceptional antioxidant, moisturizing, and regenerating properties, Moringa oleifera callus extract is used in various cosmetic products, including anti-aging creams, serums, lotions, and facial masks. It helps to improve skin elasticity and radiance while reducing signs of aging.

Anti-Aging Treatments. The high concentration of antioxidants in the extract helps to combat free radical damage, offering potent anti-aging effects and improving the health and appearance of the skin.

Hair Growth Promotion Products. Moringa oleifera callus extract can also be used in hair care products, where its nourishing and stimulating properties help to promote hair growth and improve overall hair health.

Development of New Medications. Research on the active ingredients in Moringa oleifera callus extract opens up new possibilities in the development of drugs for treating various diseases, thanks to its potential therapeutic properties.

Abstract. Moringa oleifera, Lam {Syn M.pterygosperma Gaertn} usually mentioned in literature as Moringa, is a natural as well as cultivated variety of the genus Moringa belonging to family Moringaceae .It is one of the richest plant sources of Vitamins A ,B {1,2,3,6,7}, C,D,E and K. The vital minerals present in Moringa include Calcium, Copper, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Manganese and Zinc. It has more than 40 natural anti-oxidants. Moringahas been used since 150B.C. by ancient kings and queens in their diet for mental alertness and healthy skin. The leaves, pods, seeds, gums , bark and flowers of Moringa are used in more than 80 countries {including Pakistan} to relieve mineral and vitamin deficiencies, support a healthy cardiovascular system, promote normal blood-glucose levels, neutralize free radicals {thereby reducing malignancy}, provide excellent support of the body's anit-flammatory mechanisms, enrich anemic blood and support immune system. It also improveseyesight, mental alertness and bone strength. It has potential benefit in malnutrition, general weakness, lactatingmothers, menopause, depression and osteoporosis. It is also used to make an efficient fuel, fertilizer and livestock feed. Moringa is an edible extremely safe plant. Its tree could easily and cheaply be cultivated and grown in Pakistan.

Abstract. In the present investigation, we prepared four different solvent fractions (chloroform, hexane, butanol, and ethyl acetate) of Moringa oleifera extract to evaluate its anti-inflammatory potential and cellular mechanism of action in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 cells. Cell cytotoxicity assay suggested that the solvent fractions were not cytotoxic to macrophages at concentrations up to 200 µg/mL. The ethyl acetate fraction suppressed LPS-induced production of nitric oxide and proinflammatory cytokines in macrophages in a concentration-dependent manner and was more effective than the other fractions. Immunoblot observations revealed that the ethyl acetate fraction effectively inhibited the expression of inflammatory mediators including cyclooxygenase-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and nuclear factor (NF)-κB p65 through suppression of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Furthermore, it upregulated the expression of the inhibitor of κB (IκBα) and blocked the nuclear translocation of NF-κB. These findings indicated that the ethyl acetate fraction of M. oleifera exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activity in LPS-stimulated macrophages via suppression of the NF-κB signaling pathway.
