Punica granatum is a tree belonging to the Lythraceae family with a long and established history as a source of medicinal components. In Ayurvedic and traditional medical medicine, it is used in the treatment of diabetes, as an anti-parasitic agent, to combat dysentery and atherosclerosis.
Phytochemical analysis has shown interesting health components such as ellagic acid, ursolic acid, gallic acid, polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins and tannins.
