Punica granatum is a tree belonging to the Lythraceae family with a long and established history as a source of medicinal components. In Ayurvedic and traditional medical medicine, it is used in the treatment of diabetes, as an anti-parasitic agent, to combat dysentery and atherosclerosis.
Phytochemical analysis has shown interesting health components such as ellagic acid, ursolic acid, gallic acid, polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins and tannins. All these components have demonstrated antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiviral activity and have proved useful in the treatment of Alzheimer's and diabetes.

Cosmetic astringent. This ingredient exerts a direct effect on the skin by tightening dilated pores by contracting stratum corneum cells and removing superfluous oil.

Cosmetic or pharmaceutical suspensions are known to be thermodynamically unstable and it is therefore essential to include in the formulation a suspending agent capable of dispersing any sedimented particulates and reducing the rate of sedimentation. The presence of this agent increases the consistency of the suspension medium and exerts a protective colloidal action with a surfactant action.
