Citrus Jabara Peel Oil is a botanical ingredient obtained from the homonymous tree. The fruit is the Tanaka, a japanese fruit.
Like all trees of the Rutaceae family, the fruit is used industrially by food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies. It contains numerous components of interest to human health such as flavonoids, terpenes, linalool, vitamin C, folic acid, with antioxidant properties.
The name defines the structure of the molecule:
- Citrus is the flowering plant genus of the rutaceae family, Rutaceae. It includes many well-known fruits such as oranges, lemons and limes.
- Jabara is the specific species of citrus fruits native to Japan.
- Peel Oil refers to the essential oil that is extracted from the peel of the fruit.
The synthesis process takes place in several stages:
- Harvesting and cleaning. Citrus Jabara fruits are collected and cleaned to remove dirt or impurities.
- Peeling. The outer peel of the fruit is removed. This peel contains the oil glands that produce the essential oil.
- Cold pressing or distillation. The peel is then processed to extract the oil. This is done using one of the following two methods:
- Cold pressing. The peel is mechanically pressed to squeeze the oil. This method is often used for citrus oils as it helps to preserve their fresh and bright aromas.
- Steam distillation. The peel is exposed to steam, which causes the oil glands to burst and release their oil. The mixture of steam and oil is then cooled and condensed and the oil is separated from the water.
- Filtration and purification. The oil is then filtered and purified to remove any remaining impurities.
- Quality control test. The final product is tested to ensure it meets the required specifications. This may involve verification of purity, aroma and other physical and chemical properties.

Cosmetics
Skin conditioning agent - Humectant. Humectants are hygroscopic substances used to minimise water loss in the skin and to prevent it from drying out by facilitating faster and greater absorption of water into the stratum corneum of the epidermis. The epidermis is the most superficial of the three layers that make up the human skin (epidermis, dermis and hypodermis) and is the layer that maintains hydration in all three layers. In turn, the epidermis is composed of five layers: corneum, the most superficial, lucidum, granulosum, spinosum and basale. Humectants have the ability to retain in the stratum corneum the water they attract from the air and have the function of moisturising the skin. It is better to use them before emollients that are oil-based.
Fragrance. It plays a very important role in the formulation of cosmetic products as it allows perfume to be enhanced, masked or added to the final product, improving its commercial viability. The consumer always expects to find a pleasant scent in a cosmetic product.
Flavoring agent. The purpose of this ingredient is to modify the solution to add flavour. Natural flavouring extracts are rather expensive, so the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries resort to synthesised substances that have sensory characteristics mostly similar to natural flavourings or are naturally equivalent. This ingredient is isolated through chemical processes or is synthesised from chemicals. It is also referred to as Aroma.
