Polysilicone-34 is a silicone chemical compound, is a complex polymer salt obtained by a reaction procedure of Crosspolymer Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylates with a silicone polymer prepared by another reaction of Bis-Hydroxypropyl Dimethicone with 2,3-epoxypropylamine. Subsequently, the silicone polymer is reacted with an average of 29 moles of propylene oxide and 6 moles of ethylene oxide at each end. In the final conclusion, the polymer is neutralised with Tromethamine.
The name describes the structure of the molecule
- Poly refers to polymers, which are large molecules composed of repeated subunits. In the context of chemical science and materials, a polymer is a large molecule, or macromolecule, composed of many repeated subunits, known as monomers.
- Silicone is a type of synthetic material with a wide range of uses, from lubricants to medical applications to cosmetics. Silicones are polymers that include any synthetic compound consisting of repeated units of siloxane, which is a chain of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms, combined with carbon and/or hydrogen.
- -34 refers to the average number of repeated units in the polymer. This is an average number because the actual number of repeated units may vary from molecule to molecule.
Description of raw materials used in production
- Silicon. The chemical element that is the main raw material for producing silicates and silicones.
- Organic compounds. They provide the functional groups necessary to form the polymer.
- Catalysts. Often used to facilitate and speed up the polymerization reaction.
Detailed summary of the production process.
- Preparation of Raw Materials. Silicon is purified and converted to chlorosilanes or siloxanes.
- Polymerization. The chlorosilanes or siloxanes react in the presence of a catalyst to form polymer chains.
- Functional Modification. Specific functional groups are added to the polymer to achieve desired properties.
- Purification. The polymer is purified to remove impurities and unreacted compounds.
- Packaging. Polysilicone-34 is packed into appropriate containers for distribution.
What it is used for and where
Cosmetics
Hair conditioning agent. A large number of ingredients with specific purposes can co-exist in a hair shampoo: cleansers, conditioners, thickeners, mattifying agents, sequestering agents, fragrances, preservatives, special additives. However, the indispensable ingredients are the cleansers and conditioners as they are necessary and sufficient for hair cleansing and manageability. The others act as commercial and non-essential auxiliaries such as: appearance, fragrance, colouring, etc. Hair conditioning agents have the task of increasing shine, manageability and volume, and reducing static electricity, especially after treatments such as colouring, ironing, waving, drying and brushing. They are, in practice, dispersing agents that may contain cationic surfactants, thickeners, emollients, polymers. The typology of hair conditioners includes: intensive conditioners, instant conditioners, thickening conditioners, drying conditioners.
Skin conditioning agent. An ingredient that is the mainstay of topical skin treatment by restoring, increasing or improving skin tolerance to external factors, including melanocyte tolerance. The most important function of the conditioning agent is to prevent skin dehydration, but the subject is rather complex and involves emollients and humectants.
Safety
It is an ingredient that has a high bioaccumulation and persistence. Silicones have high chemical stability but low biodegradability and high bioaccumulation potential.
Commercial Applications
Cosmetics and Skin Care. Polysilicone-34 can be used in cosmetic formulations to enhance texture, provide a silky feel on the skin, and improve the spreadability of other ingredients.
Sunscreen Products. This polymer is often utilized in sun care products to enhance water-resistance and uniform distribution of the product on the skin.
Hair Products. It can be incorporated into hair products to provide shine, reduce frizz, and enhance combability.
