1,5-pentanediol is a chemical compound, primary alcohol obtained industrially from tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol by various catalytic methods including purification and isolation of the intermediates to obtain a yield of 70%.
It occurs as an oily clear liquid that is miscible with water, methanol, ethanol, ketones and ethyl acetate. pH 7.5

Cosmetics
Intermediate for personal care products as a fragrance and moisturising agent.
Other uses
1,5-pentanediol can be used as a monomer for the production of polyesters and chain extender in polyurethanes, as a polymerisation additive (plasticiser), to produce polycarbonate diols. Chemical solvent. Synthesis of propiconazole from pesticides.
