What is Ellagic acid

A natural component, a polyphenol.

Where is it?

In some plants of the Myrtaceae family, in particular from Eucalyptus Hemifolia, Eucalyptus maculata. It has also been isolated from:

Avicennia schaueriana Stapf, a Brazilian endemic mangrove, Avicenniaceae family (1)

Tilia Tormentosa, Tiliaceae family (2)

Theobroma cacao L., family Sterculiaceae (3)

Terminalia bentzoë (L.), Combretaceae family (4)

Clerodendrum viscosum, Lamiaceae family (5)

Pimenta racemosa, Myrtaceae family (6)

Spondias mombin L., family Anacardiaceae (7),

pomegranate, cranberries, nuts, raspberries and also in the propolis of Brazilian bees Melipona subnitida Ducke (jandaíra) (8)

What is it for?

The very recent studies on its properties are numerous and supported by laboratory tests on animals and people.

The general anti-inflammatory properties (9) and details (10) of this acid have been ascertained.

Moreover :

Hepatoprotective activity (11)
Protection of bowel (12) and colon (13)
Protection of the brain and sciatic nerve (14)
Reduction of tumor cell proliferation in breast cancer (15)
Protection for gastritis and ulcer (16)
Protection for prostate cancer (17)
Skin protection against ultraviolet rays (18)
